The first two pictures are of the Paper Wasp “foraging” in my day lilies. In the second picture especially, you can see her wings and back covered in pollen, thus contributing to the healthiness of my day lilies.
According to mulitple sources, paper wasps gather fibers from dead wood and plants, chew them up, mix them with saliva, and make the “paper” for their nests. The second two photographs seem to show this process. The wasp proceeded to walk up and down the old fence in our yard, and in the fourth picture appears to be stripping a thin piece of wood from the fence.
